IMPORTANT
LEGISLATIVE NOTICE
During
the last session of the New York State Legislature, legislation
was introduced in the Assembly and the Senate for a crew
consist law that would affect passenger revenue train operations
outside of New York City Limits. The legislation, Bill number
A 8655 for the Assembly version, and the companion Senate
Bill, S 5376 will require a minimum train crew of one conductor
and one trainman. The legislation was introduced at the
request of Sam Nasca, New York State Legislative Director
from the United Transportation Union (UTU).
If
passed into law, the crew consist bill would help ensure
safety measures for commuter train service employees and
passengers, and by extension, engine service employees.
We urge all concerned train and engine service employees
and their family members, to contact their Local State Representatives
and request them to support this legislation. The phone
numbers for your Local Assembly persons and State Senators
in your area are located in the Federal and State office
section of your local phone book. Please call your State
Assembly persons and State Senators office and voice your
support for Bill A 8655 and Bill S 5376.
These
two bills can be reviewed in the Legislative section of
the MTAcre website at www.mtacre.com (dated 11/24/2003 under
UTU Sponsored Legislation). If anyone has any questions
regarding this legislation, please feel free to contact
the UTU New State Legislative Directors Office at (518)
438-8403. Thank you and please, these Bills need our support.
