from the desk of the association of commuter rail employees

from acre executive board
re twu local 100 strike
As you are aware, TWU Local 100 has commenced an illegal
job action against the New York Transit Authority. While
our entire Organization supports their efforts and regrets
that their contract negotiations have come to this point,
it is important to remember that the TWU strike does not
involve the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, or
Metro-North Railroad. Furthermore, because the TWU
action is a violation of New York State Law any sympathy
action on our part would also be illegal and subject to
legal penalties. Be advised that we have no intention
of placing our members in legal jeopardy however well intentioned
that kind of support would appear to be.
During this difficult period, we feel it is important
to remind out members of their responsibility to come to
work. However, it is equally important remind our
members that our employer, Metro-North, also has a responsibility
to provide us safe passage in the event members encounter
a picket line. The Chief of Operations Services, S.I.
Herrington, has dispatched a Train Service Notice listing
the designated entrances that will be kept safe and clear
by the MTA Police Department. These notices have been
made available at all terminals and can be accessed on the
MTA web-site as a broadcast notice. If you try to
report to work and are confronted by demonstrators who threaten
your safety, seek a safe area and contact the Crew Management
Center. Inform them that you have reported for your
assignment but are unable to safely access your workplace
They will provide you with further instructions.
If you have any further questions contact your local
representative or call the ACRE union offices at 2212-599-5856.
As this story progresses we will provide you with further
information as more details are made available.
