Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney holds Rail Safety Conference

On June 21 st, I attended a rail safety conference at the TWU International Offices in New York. In attendance were Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney, Chair of the Task Force on Homeland Security for the House Democratic Caucus, and various International and Local Officers from the TWU, Teamsters and the BLET.

A variety of subjects were discussed relating to Rail Safety procedures. The primary focus of this conference was directed towards the areas of concern due to threats from terrorism. Some of the issues addressed concerned the funding of additional security measures, security training for rail and transit employees, employee staffing of rail and transit stations and the manning of commuter rail and subway trains. More conferences are to be scheduled.

The literature distributed at the conference and the subsequent material from the press conference held in Grand Central Terminal follow this letter.

                  Sincerely,
